Autoimmune Disease
When you have an autoimmune disease, you really have two problems: your immune system is confused, and some part of your body is being attacked and destroyed. Conventional medicine takes two different approaches to autoimmunity, depending on the disease. In the case of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, doctors simply wait until the thyroid is dead and then prescribe synthetic T4 in the form of levothyroxine. In the case of Grave’s disease, they radiate the thyroid or remove it surgically. In either case, you have to take thyroid hormones the rest of your life. In the case of other autoimmune diseases, doctors are taught to use a variety of immune-suppressing drugs to shut down the arm of the immune system that is overreacting. This is great, except that it increases your risks of cancer, systemic fungal diseases, etc.
One of the problems with these approaches is that they ignore a critical feature of autoimmunity: Once you get one autoimmune disease, you are at high risk of developing another one. If your immune system is confused enough to attack your thyroid, what’s to stop it from attacking your intestines, your joints, or your nerves? Nothing.
At Prestige Wellness Institute, you address the whole problem. This means repairing your immune system so it stops attacking you. It means repairing your gut lining, which has to be damaged in order for autoimmunity to occur. It means removing infections and/or toxins that triggered the immune dysfunction. And it means protecting, healing, and compensating for the impaired function of whatever tissue has been attacked.
Ideally, it is best to treat autoimmune disease before any symptoms appear. Antibodies can appear in your bloodstream up to 15 years before any symptoms occur. Unfortunately, it’s not particularly practical for healthy people to get a variety of autoantibodies checked every year. But the sooner you start treating an autoimmune disease, the better your outcome. For example, if you get appropriate treatment during the “honeymoon” period of Type 1 diabetes, you can save the cells in your pancreas that make insulin and reverse your diabetes. But you don’t have time to fool around. At the same time, it’s never too late to treat autoimmune disease. Even if it has caused irreversible damage to a tissue or organ, the sooner you fix your immune system, the better your chance of developing other autoimmune diseases.
If you are looking for hope, if you are looking for solutions, if you believe there has to be a better way to address your problem than your doctor has recommended, call Prestige Wellness Institute to get going on a new and healthier path.
